AWS commits to two million more NVIDIA GPUs

The GPUs deploy across 2027 and 2028, with 100,000 reserved for U.S. government AI factories.

AI infrastructure

AWS and NVIDIA to add two million more GPUs1

AWS and NVIDIA said AWS will deploy two million more NVIDIA GPUs across its global infrastructure over 2027 and 2028.1 The plan also builds AI factories for the U.S. government, putting 100,000 GPUs on secure infrastructure at Impact Level 6 and above.1 Independent trade coverage places the chips across NVIDIA's Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra lines.2 They sit on top of the more than one million GPUs AWS committed at GTC earlier in 2026, bringing capacity introduced this year past three million.2 None of the two million has been deployed yet.

Robotaxis

Nevada permits Tesla robotaxis on the Las Vegas Strip3

The Nevada Transportation Authority's interim order grants Tesla Robotaxi fully autonomous passenger service in the Las Vegas Strip corridor, capped at ten vehicles and 45 mph, with pickups barred near Harry Reid International Airport.3 On August 20 the Authority approved full commercial permits for Tesla, Uber, and Waymo. TechCrunch reports ceilings of up to 5,000 Tesla vehicles and 1,000 each for Uber and Waymo over twelve months, though no primary order for those caps is public.4 Tesla's Cybercab chief engineer calls 5,000 a ceiling rather than a plan, and about 2,500 the realistic near-term number.4 The only permit document available caps the fleet at ten.

Formal mathematics

OpenAI open-sources Lean proofs for ten math and CS results5

The Decoder reported the ten results about four weeks ago, on August 1.6 The verification is public in the openai/ten-proofs repository, which holds machine-checkable Lean 4 certificates for all ten results under an Apache-2.0 license.5 The certificates cover sphere-packing bounds, Connes's rigidity conjecture, quantum parallel repetition, and multicolor Ramsey numbers, among others.5 The repository frames them as verification for an accompanying manuscript rather than as discoveries in their own right.5 The name "Astra" and a reported cost near $2,000 to generate all ten solutions at OpenAI's API rates come from the announcement and secondary coverage, not the repository.6 None of the results has been peer-reviewed.6

AI financing

No filing confirms Broadcom's reported AI-debt raise7

Reports over August 20 and 21, from CNBC, Bloomberg, and Reuters as relayed by Yahoo Finance, put Broadcom in the market for $70 to $80 billion in debt, with some accounts pushing the figure toward $100 billion.8 The reported financing runs through a special-purpose vehicle tied to AI customers including Anthropic, and extends a $35 billion June arrangement with Apollo and Blackstone.8 The figures trace to anonymous sources. Broadcom and Apollo did not comment, and Blackstone declined to.8 Broadcom's most recent filing, the fiscal second-quarter 10-Q for the quarter ended May 3, contains no reference to the arrangement.7 That quarter closed before the June deal the reporting describes, so the filing neither confirms it nor rules it out.7
